Protecting promoting and supporting breastfeeding is a key intervention to protect infant and young child health, development and survival in emergencies- as illustrated by the theme of World Breastfeeding Week 2009: Breastfeeding- a vital emergency response".
In emergency situations, the Code is especially important for controlling donations, preventing the distribution of unsuitable products and preventing companies from using emergencies to increase market share or for
public relations.
