Breastfeeding can break the poverty cycle

Breastfeeding can break the poverty cycle by increasing the education potential for the child:

  • Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months decreases the risk of anemia. Anemia in infancy is linked to deficits in language development.
  • Frequent feedings increase mother-child interactions, skin-to-skin contact and sensory stimulation during brain growth.
  • Fewer ear infections mean better hearing, verbal and speech development.
  • It increases learning readiness and I.Q. levels of children at age seven.
