Biomonitoring of Human Milk

The Technical Note on WHO activities on monitoring of residues of man-made chemicals in human milk provides the explanation for biomonitoring of breastmilk. It also gives the background for WHO's statement: "WHO continues to strongly recommend that breastfeeding be encouraged and promoted". The table on page 2 shows that levels of chemical residues detected in breastmilk are steadily falling in Europe:
