Breastfeeding at the Committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights.
The Committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights is the body mandated to monitor the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights [link: http://www.ohchr.org/EN/ProfessionalInterest/Pages/CESCR.aspx]. The Committee is concerned with issues relevant for the work of IBFAN: it monitors the implementation of the right to health (art 12) including sexual and reproductive health, the right to food (art 11) and the right to work (art 6, 7, 10). It is composed of 18 independent experts who meet twice a year, in May and November.
The reports aim at sensitizing the Committee on the issue of infant and young child feeding and its importance for the full implementation of the rights enshrined in the International Covenant, in particular the right to health and food.
