WBW – World Breastfeeding Week 2026
#WBW2026 (World Breastfeeding Week) will focus on tracking progress and evaluating breastfeeding impact on nutrition, food security and poverty reduction with highlights of successful implementation and lessons learnt. In 2026, the WBW-SDG campaign will enter its third cycle and will focus on tracking progress in Thematic Area 1: Nutrition, food security and poverty reduction. The campaign will measure progress, showcase global and regional statistics with highlights of what works and what needs further improvement.
Protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding will ensure optimum nutrition, food security and poverty reduction. Breastfeeding saves both the infant and maternal lives. It also supports nutrition, development and lifelong health. Breastmilk is a low-cost, locally available nutrition for all, hence promoting equity with economic returns to families and nations. We invite all the actors in the Warm Chain of Support for Breastfeeding to join us in understanding what is working in countries that are reporting good breastfeeding progress.

breastfeeding implementation through policies and guidelines across the Warm Chain.

with individuals and organisations to enhance collaboration and support for breastfeeding.

World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) is a global network of individuals and organisations dedicated to the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding worldwide based on the Innocenti Declarations, the Ten Links for Nurturing the Future and the WHO/UNICEF Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding. WABA is in consultative status with UNICEF and an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC). WABA coordinates the annual World Breastfeeding Week campaign.

Breastfeeding for a sustainable start in life: strengthen what works
Breastfeeding support begins at birth, but it must continue following discharge. Trained teams in the maternity unit, implementation of the Ten Steps, compliance with the International Code, follow-up through health services, support networks, paid leave and suitable workplace conditions all make a difference.
Strengthening what works means bringing together care, protection and support so that mothers and babies have the conditions they need to start and continue breastfeeding.
